Identified Problems

With the global expansion of the platform, the decision was made to accommodate 11 languages and empower end users and content managers to choose their preferred language. However, BenchPrep supported only one language.

1. limitation
The Product did not foresee many customers utilizing the multi-language feature in many use cases. Consequently, the implementation scope was kept to a minimum.

2. Content language and platform language
Given the platform's distinct architecture, the design team had to ensure that the hierarchy of language selection was clear and apparent to end users.

Success Criterias

A goal for this project includes enabling content creators to seamlessly produce diverse content in multiple languages without the need to relearn the platform—additionally, the implementation leverages existing technology to significantly reduce development time. Finally, the solution is designed with scalability in mind, ensuring it can support future growth and expansion.

Multi-language Platform

Content language

Due to budget constraints preventing a platform overhaul, the design team opted to treat multiple languages as supported languages and manage them as an add-on section. This decision enabled us to maintain the original structure while ensuring scalability.

Learning platform language

The universal language selector governs the platform's languages, including navigation, section labels, progress labels, etc. This selector is a shared component utilized on the login page and other pages facing learners. In contrast, the content language selector exclusively pertains to the content within a course. Nevertheless, the design encompassed all pages where the content was displayed.

Language selection scenario

As the platform incorporates two language pickers, the design diligently considered all conceivable scenarios and potential UX issues before proceeding with full implementation.

Result and Lessons

This project has empowered both content creators and end users with enhanced flexibility. Content creators can now seamlessly produce diverse content in multiple languages without the need for relearning the platform. This facilitates the creation of a robust collection of content. Similarly, end users can easily select their preferred languages to learn content and acquire knowledge without facing unnecessary challenges in understanding the material. The project underscores the importance of design flexibility—while starting from scratch is clean, having certain constraints encourages designers to navigate the limitations at hand creatively.
